Department of Education

Education is the systematic development and cultivation of natural powers, resulting in knowledge, skill, and wisdom. Education in its broadest, most general sense is a means through which the aims and habits of a group of people are passed from one generation to the next. Education generally results from an experience that affects the way in which one thinks, feels, or acts. In its narrowest, most technical sense, education is the formal process by which society deliberately passes accumulated knowledge, skills, customs, and values from one generation to the next. Education determines the future of children, society, and nation. The Institute of Education comprises of two Departments i.e. Department of Education and Department of Physical Education.

The Department of Education was established in the year 2009 with an aim to enliven the pedagogical endeavor and quality research in the field of education. The Department has designed its programs of studies and research to meet the requirements and demands of the present educational and scientific era.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1 To develop the capacity among student teachers to use knowledge of effective verbal on-verbal and media communication techniques to foster active enquiry, collaboration and supportive interaction in the classroom.

 

PEO2 To change the behavior, attitude and values of teacher trainees so that they shape into responsible and accountable agents of change in the society, in the perspective of local, national and global concerns and issues vital for human survival, progress and development.

 

Program Outcomes (POs)

 

PO1    Develop an understanding of education as an agenda for the nation state and its policy visions and efforts in evolving a national system of education.

PO2    Develop an understanding of development, learning and uniqueness of the growing child in diverse socio-cultural contexts.

PO3    Critically examine key universal constructs in developmental psychology and educational psychology.

PO4    Develop the potential for perspective building located in the Indian socio-cultural context.

PO5    Build knowledge understanding and sensitivity of different perspectives in the area of education of children with disabilities.

PO6    Engage with the discourses on contemporary Indian society and education.

 

 

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

 

PSO1 Understand basic concepts and ideas of educational theory.

PSO2 Build understanding and perspective on the nature of the learner, diversity and learning.

PSO3 Build skills and abilities of communication, reflection, art, aesthetics, theatre, self-expression and ICT.

PSO4 Ability to practice and research in different fields for achieving desirable change and development and empowerment of people

PSO5 Comprehend the role of the systems of governance and structural – functional provisions that support school education and develop understanding about teaching, pedagogy, school management and community involvement.

  • To help the students to explore the most challenging and exciting questions in education research, policy and practice.
  • To enable the students to shape the future world with the transformative power of education.
